About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor educated at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  After receiving a bachelors degree in psychology in 2004 and masters degree in counseling in 2006, my post graduate internship was completed with a local counseling agency where I worked with diverse multicultural populations and a wide variety of issues.  I have received specialized eating disorder training through work in an eating disorder/DBT treatment center.

I am an Certified Eating Disorder Therapist  CEDS and an EMDRIA trained EMDR therapist working toward certification.  I utilize a trauma informed approach to my work.  Much of my training and experience is in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)  and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with a focus on skills training in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.  When working with clients suffering from an eating disorder, I utilize a treatment team approach collaborating with other medical professionals on behalf of my client. I have received intensive training in DBT and the treatment of anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and substance abuse. Relational Cultural Therapy from the Jean Baker Miller Institute of Wellesley University greatly influences my work through commitment, focus on relationships, and meaningful connection as a powerful part of the treatment process.

Since a client's spiritual perspective is also a key element of recovering from trauma, I take special care to integrate my client's spirituality into treatment and will often work from a Christian perspective.

Much of my more recent work is based on the research of Dr. Brene Brown and the healing of shame.

I support a 12-step approach to substance abuse treatment, adopting and integrating the addiction model into much of my work.
